Return Policy

Not every book is a perfect match. If something is not quite right, we will help you find a happy ending.

We want you to love every page — and every purchase — from Paper Trail. If something does not meet your expectations, we are here to make it right. Below you will find everything you need to know about returns, exchanges, and refunds. If you have questions, just drop us a line at questions@ondpapertrail.com.

1. Our Promise

Your satisfaction matters to us. If an item arrives damaged, defective, or simply not what you expected, we will do our best to fix it. We ask only that you reach out within 14 days of delivery so we can sort things out quickly.

2. Store Purchases

Individual items purchased from our store (books, merchandise, accessories, etc.) can be returned within 14 days of delivery, provided they are:

  • Unused and in original condition.
  • In their original packaging with all tags and inserts intact.
  • Accompanied by proof of purchase (order confirmation or receipt).

Once we receive and inspect the returned item, we will issue a refund to your original payment method within 5-7 business days. Shipping costs for the original order are non-refundable unless the item was faulty or incorrectly sent.

3. Subscription Boxes

Because each subscription box is curated specifically for you, we generally cannot accept returns on opened boxes. However, we absolutely want you to be thrilled with what arrives.

If your box or any item inside arrives damaged, missing, or not as described, please contact us within 14 days of delivery and we will:

  • Replace the damaged or missing item at no extra cost.
  • Offer store credit for the affected item(s).
  • Provide a partial or full refund, depending on the situation.

We may ask for a photo of the damaged item or packaging to help us improve and resolve the issue faster.

4. Non-Returnable Items

The following items cannot be returned:

  • Gift cards and digital products.
  • Items marked as final sale or clearance.
  • Personalized or custom-made items.
  • Books or products that have been read, used, or damaged after delivery.

5. How to Start a Return

Getting started is simple:

  1. Email us at questions@ondpapertrail.com with your order number and a brief description of the issue.
  2. We will review your request and send you a return authorization along with instructions.
  3. Pack the item securely and ship it back using the provided label or a trackable method.
  4. Once we receive and inspect the item, we will process your refund or exchange.

Please note: unless the return is due to our error, return shipping costs are the responsibility of the customer.

6. Exchanges

If you would like to exchange an item for a different size, edition, or title, please contact us within 14 days. Exchanges are subject to availability. If the desired replacement is out of stock, we will issue store credit or a refund instead.

7. Damaged or Lost Shipments

If your order arrives damaged or goes missing in transit, please let us know as soon as possible. We work closely with our shipping partners to resolve these issues and will either replace the item or issue a full refund once we confirm the situation.

8. Refund Timeline

Once we receive your returned item, we aim to process refunds within 5-7 business days. Depending on your bank or payment provider, it may take an additional few days for the funds to appear in your account. We will send you a confirmation email once the refund has been initiated.
